Personal Statement:

I am currently a third-year Fine Art degree student at Cleveland College of Art and Design Hartlepool. Prior to this I achieved a BTEC in Art and Design at the CCAD Green Lane Campus in Middlesbrough.

Throughout my degree my professional practice has increasingly developed due to research and practical skills gained on the course. My current series of work is titled ‘Comparable Aesthetics’. This collection is based around the notion of finding objects which display stimulating properties and from these I create artworks which are informed by a similar aesthetic.  I often spend time observing how and why these pieces were once primed and painted; considering what purpose they might have once served. Also during this Degree I have gained a strong knowledge of the creative sector, as well as seeking and developing working relationships with the local council, professional practitioners and gallery directors.

Work Experience:

December 2016- May 2017-Fine Art BA HONS- Exhibition Committee

My roles within the committee have been within the sponsorship sector, where I have produced a series of letters seeking sponsorship for the Fine Art degree show in June 2017. I also have a role within the Curatorial section, meaning I will assist with the overall hanging positioning of the work.

November 2016-To Present-Contemporary Collecting Working Group.

I was invited to join this working Group-Contemporary Collecting by Hartlepool Art Gallery, as a local working artist. Within the group we meet regularly to discuss ways in which we can transform the gallery and the galleries collection of art into a more diverse contemporary collection. Local gallery staff and directors also attend these meetings and share their experiences and knowledge.

October 2016-To Present- Hartlepool Gallery Assistant

I am employed by Hartlepool Art Gallery where I work as a gallery assistant. My roles within this job include working front of house delivering customer service, installing and curating exhibitions and informing visitors of local arts based events. Also within this workplace, I have assisted with monthly art sessions aimed towards young adults working towards a Level 1 in Art and Design. These sessions are always tailored around the current exhibition within the gallery, giving the clients an interactive and exciting approach to learning about the art on show.

May 2016-To Present- Owner at Creative Expression-Creative Workshops

I run an independent business named ‘Creative Expression’ delivering craft workshops within the community. I have secured a partnership with Chilli Cake in Hartlepool, a popular venue/location within Hartlepool where my workshops take place. Myself and Chilli Cake have frequent planning and progress meetings and have created a wide range of art/craft event listings for 2017. I have delivered workshops to all age groups from young children to adults. As well as delivering and planning the workshops, I also design my own promotional material and advertise this in the local community in the Tees valley area. I have also recently worked with individuals with special needs, providing craft based activities at a birthday party.

February-July 2016 - Artrium Hartlepool- Artistic Assistant

This was a voluntary role within an art based therapeutic studio for individuals with complex learning difficulties and mental health problems. I supported the clients to focus upon making art which promotes general wellbeing, I also offered basic counselling. This role required me to attend a safeguarding adults course and mental health awareness program.

December 2015- Christmas Lights- Additional Needs Liaison/Point of contact- Hartlepool Borough Council.

My role as Additional Needs Liaison meant I assisted anyone with any additional needs at the event and ensured they enjoyed the experience in a comfortable and safe manner. For example, I arranged a meet and greet with the visiting celebrity for a group of children with autism who felt uncomfortable with crowds and loud noises.
